Oh, and if you're a facebook-a-phobe (i know there are a few of you out there), you may like to add the following to your calendar:
What: Yoghurt Truck + Laughing Sam's Dice: pub rock, blues, grunge, alternative. When: Sunday, 10 August, 3-9pm (YT start at 4.30, LSD at 7. No, not that kind. Some folk dude from 3, don't turn up for that.) Wny: Fundraiser for local ALP candidate. Don't worry about that though, 'cos it's all about the music. And the beer! (Note: $10 entry. Worth it!) Where: Pot Belly, Weedon Close Belconnenen. en.
Note: I'm not playing with Yoghurt Truck anymore, I'll be appearing with Laughing Sam's Dice: Jon Rooks, Andrew Blake, Petar Djokovic, Karl Morris, and me. Yay! Should be a good afternoon to drink beer and enjoy some tunes. (Earplugs may or may not be warranted.)

The Beatles - Come Together (slightly sped up in Soundforge) |
] |
... so as I mentioned, I'm playing a bit of pool at the moment.
Monday nights is training, at the Southern Cross.
Tuesday nights is the 4-player teams prizemoney comp at The Venue. Heb, Ritchie, Erin and I have made a team, with Cam as reserve, and we stole the trivia team moniker of Novak N Goode (although truth to tell, i think this team name predates Mawson trivia - Luke, Anthony and I had that name in our first casual 8-ball comp at Jackpot). Our first match was this week, we narrowly lost to the Chippas (who are essentially division 1-2 players) 10-9. Ritchie won 3/4, Heb and I won 2/4 each, and as couples we won 2 doubles matches (Heb and Erin lost their doubles match.) So, thus far, I think we've won more frames than we did in the last competition - not a bad start. ;)
Wednesdays (for the next 12 weeks anyway) is the ACTEBA winter season. Last week's Round 1 match to the Jagerbombers was topsy turvy - we had a shocker first round to be 5-1 down, but we'd brought it back to 6 all by halftime. They fluked a few freames in round three to go 10-8 up, but we fought again to draw the match at 12 all.
This week's match against the Tomtones (Tom and Tony are the cap/vice cap) was almost the opposite - we were up 4-2 after round 1, they kicked our arse to be 7-5 up at halftime, we clawed it back to 9 all at the last turn, then we went frame for frame to finish with another 12 all draw.
Meanwhile, in non-pool related news, there's a small group of us planning on seeing Get Smart at Woden on Friday night - anyone else keen?
Other: I tricksied my 'puter into turning emails that I send it into torrenty goodness, 'cos I couldn't be arsed fighting my ISP and my dodgy Belkin router to get SSH magci to the home box. So now I just send an email with a specific subject line with a torrent attached, Thunderbird auto-detaches it and pops it into a folder which utorrent just happens to be watching and it auto-starts. Yay! Now I just have to wait to be unthrottled (stupid 36Gb Native Instruments download) and I can work on getting my ratio on supertorrents back up above 2...

”List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring winter. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to.”
My listening habits of late are essentially songs I'm learning (mostly via osmosis) to play in the band. Here's a sample of what we're working on currently:
1. Queen - Tie Your Mother Down 2. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - Wild World 3. Aerosmith - Sweet Emotion 4. Shihad - Pacifier 5. Foo Fighters - Everlong 6. Monster Magnet - Space Lord 7. Filter - Take A Picture
I hereby tag thee: samiel, nangwhore, ketamine-ninja, linusfrost, mistressoftears, button30, adamthebastard. (CBF looking up the html tag for ljfriends. So much meh!)

Heather had her ass-kickin' shoes on yesterday, when she finished in the top four of her first round grouping for the ACT 2008 Ladies Open 8-ball championships.
Her stunning performance earned her a spot in the Top 12 shootout next weekend. That's right - this year, Heather is in the top 12 female players in the ACT.
After careful consideration, I have decided that this is pretty freakin' awesome.

Okay, so to cut a medium length story short, I can't get to my fizz@ email account from work (no imap out, and can't use the dbmb webmail interface 'cos it runs on CPanel, ie, non-standard ports like 2092 etc.)
So I'm thinking I need some kind of thingy, a script if you will, that runs somewhere, that grabs my mail (via pop or preferably imap) and converts it into a nice tidy and web-accessible RSS feed.
Google-fu has lead me to this tasty snippet o' code, but I was hoping for something I didn't have to host myself. Anyone know of any online sites or services that offer this kind of malarkey?

I'm not sure why, and i'm still not sure if it's a good idea, but I created an account on twitter (http://www.twitter.com).

Can you hear that?
Listen, very carefully... it's a soft, soft cry, way off in the distance.
I can't quite make it out, but it sounds a bit like... well, if I was a betting man, I'd swear it could almost be... wait! Yes, that's what it is!
It's BEER! And it's calling me! AND YOU!
(The beer is whispering Friday at me. Must be a sign.)
EDIT: Yep, it's a sign alright - got a call about a house today, we're moving to Richardson. Huzzah! I expect there will be some form of housewarming in early March. (Coincidence? I think not.)

| ...an update, marinated in whine |
[07 Jan 2008|03:29pm] |
Welcome to 2008. Thank fuck 2007 is over with - the less said about it, the better. In fact, I've already said too much, and thus I will cease this pointless discussion of it, right now.
And so, 2008 already brings new beginnings - Kamfnaah must officially be evacuated by March 7. The owners invaded today and had a whinge about the "horrid reek of cigarette smoke" (fair enuff, i guess), and whined about the garden. Who knew there was a damn garden? Maybe if there was a skerrit of useable shade or shelter outside, we wouldn't have had to spend three years indoors.
Fuck 'em, I say. Fuck 'em right in the ear.
As I recall, about two weeks after we moved in, we noticed a leak in the roof near the smoke detector outside the master bedroom - which still hasn't been fixed. The birds that nested in the roof over the light fitting near the front door are probably adding extensions to their cozy little abode, as that little maintenance problem still hasn't been fixed. Of the four outside light fittings, one at the back has never worked, the sensor-light at the front hasn't worked in over twelve months, and the standard light outside the front door blows bulbs with monotonous regularity. I can't recall right now if I've regaled you with the woeful Dishwasher Saga, but I'll give you the short version: they fucked us over by being tightarses.
Despite all this, of course, it's been a fantastic place to live, and the rent has stayed stupidly cheap for what it is - current allhomes browsing is telling me I'm going to have to spend about another $100 per week(!!) to get something similar. Dammit. We've got about a month to look around before we have to commit to something, so hopefully something tasty comes on the market. We're hoping to stay in north tuggers, but we might end up further south or in weston creek/woden if the right place comes up. This is perhaps the only regret about buying the pool table - I thought that not many people had them because they were really expensive (they aren't), it turns out nobody has them because they're a fucking big-ass piece of furniture that doesn't fucking fit in 95% of houses (more accurately, 99.9% of sub-5-bedroom houses).
Meanwhile, I'm going in to get my wisdom teeth pulled in the first week of Feb. Huzzah! Unless my luck changes, I can forsee housemoving while wigged out on codeine and with a puffy face. God I hope that doesn't happen.
Lastly, our foray into Division 2 begins next week. I'm envisioning a season of terrible smackdown, were we get sent back to third div in no uncertain terms, but maybe that's just because I've become a pessimistic self-defeatist. Time will tell, I guess. ;)
Happy new year! If I make it to my birthday sane, expect some kind of celebration, involving a new residence, and lots of beer.
